Amanda Jacobs, GM at BYS, is the fifth and final video in this series of “She Sails”.
Amanda Jacobs is passionate about mentoring more women into leadership roles. She works with women to enhance their confidence, strengthen their communication skills and to demonstrate the path to leadership.
Amanda has a background in theatre and sport and uses her experiences with both industries to demonstrate the power of collaboration and diversity of ideas in strengthening leadership and outcomes for organisations.
Women are under-represented in leadership roles in sport. I could offer facts to support this statement but instead I’ll share my experience with you. I have been the sole woman sitting at boardroom tables, I have experienced the invisibility cloak of being female in decision making sessions, I have attended networking events with a handful of women and a room full of men. I have walked into multiple sporting clubs around the country and been greeted by a photo wall of men and their achievements in sport. I have been referred to as ‘the girl in the office’ (I was in fact the General Manager).
Change is taking place right now across the country. I am excited and privileged to play a part in offering more women the opportunity and conviction to share their ideas. Ultimately it is our sport clubs and games which will reap the benefit of greater diversity and gender equality in leadership and decision making.
